Director of Marketing

BioWare is searching for a Director of Marketing to lead Marketing efforts for BioWare Edmonton. The Director of Marketing position would ideally be based in Edmonton, but could also be based remotely. The remote location would require approximately 50% travel and onsite time in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to effectively lead the Marketing team and successfully interface with game development teams in Edmonton. The Director of Marketing reports jointly in a matrix reporting relationship to the Corporate VP of Marketing of BioWare’s parent company, BioWare/Pandemic (aka VG Holding Corp.), who is located at the HQ offices in Menlo Park, California, and to the CEO and President of BioWare (also Corporate VPs at the VGH level), based in Edmonton.

The Director of Marketing will implement the marketing strategy and product marketing initiatives within the studio, working closely with Sr. Brand Managers and VG Holding Corp.’s VP of Marketing to maximize the success of each of BioWare’s studio products and/or franchises. In addition, the Director of Marketing will provide leadership to the 12+ members of the BioWare Marketing team, including the disciplines of Consumer Marketing, Public Relations, Web and Community Development, Analysis, Brand Management, and Promotional Art. This role will drive the marketing activities through the following mandates:

Create strong global brands:
• Manage and lead the product marketing activities for BioWare products including working with the product development teams on design concepts, positioning, storyline, etc.
• Work with development team to define product positioning and feature sets
• From concept to final ship-out, the Director of Marketing will work closely with the development team in order to maximize both the products’ quality and most importantly the market appeal.

Provide insightful research to support market driven product development:
• Ensure a strong connection between the product development goals and the end user’s requirements through quantitative and qualitative market research throughout the projects’ life cycles as well as thorough analysis of broader entertainment trends and macro industry research and analysis.
• Provide consistent feedback to studio production group in terms of platform trends, competitive activities, retail sales and consumer trends.

Implement world class Public Relations and marketing plans:
• Work with the Marketing Team to develop and execute the Franchise Marketing Plan, which includes product positioning, target market identification and analysis, volume forecasting, budgeting, category & competitive analysis and pricing analysis.
• Drive individual product P&L as well as a long-term franchise and IP plans together with the VP Marketing and Studio Project Leads.
• Drive the development and execution of all consumer marketing materials, including advertising, packaging, retail, PR and online community.
o Support for marketing communications will be provided by a central resource at BioWare’s parent company.

Departmental responsibilities:
• Mentor and provide leadership for the full Marketing team (PR, web and community development, marketing, analysis and promotional art).
