Assistant/Associate Professor of Digital
Media Arts
Empire State University is currently seeking
an Assistant/Associate Professor of Digital Media Arts in our School of Arts
and Humanities to join a vibrant community of scholar-practitioners and artists
where innovation in online arts education meets cutting-edge creative practice.
The Department of Arts and Media is home to award-winning faculty across
creative writing, digital media arts, game art and design, performing arts,
visual arts and design, and interdisciplinary arts.
As a pioneer in online education, our
department leads the way in reimagining studio practice and creative
development in digital learning environments. Our bachelor's degree in digital
media arts exemplifies this innovation, incorporating state-of-the-art
approaches to online arts education while preparing students for dynamic
careers in creative industries. We are at the forefront of integrating
artificial intelligence applications across our curriculum while teaching AI
literacy, empowering students to engage critically, creatively and ethically
with emerging technologies in the arts.
The successful candidate will join a
collaborative community of arts and media faculty who are shaping the future of
arts education. You will have opportunities to develop forward-thinking
curriculum, engage in scholarly and creative activities, and contribute to our
department's tradition of excellence in online teaching and learning. We seek a
dynamic artist-educator who will develop and teach online courses and
independent studies in the digital media arts and related areas, serving
learners across New York State, nationally, and worldwide. The role includes
mentoring students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines while demonstrating
a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion across the faculty
role.
The Assistant/Associate Professor of Digital
Media Arts will collaborate with Arts and Media colleagues to teach the Digital
Media Arts curriculum in areas such as Digital Art and Design, Digital
Storytelling, History and Theory of New Media, 2D & 3D animation, 3D
modeling, interactive media, and related disciplines such as gaming and
immersive technologies/virtual environments. They will guide students through
the process of creating advanced digital media arts projects while integrating
both theory and practice. Engagement in an active creative and research agenda
and ongoing service to the university are expected. SUNY Empire supports
faculty as they pursue scholarly work and professional development activities
that enhance their teaching, research, and creative practice.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and teach a range of courses in
Digital Media Arts and related areas.
• Engage in active research and/or creative
work relevant to digital media arts and/or related disciplines.
• Mentor and advise students from diverse
backgrounds, assisting them in their educational and professional development.
• Contribute to curriculum development and
innovation in digital media arts education, including AI literacy and
artificial intelligence applications in the disciplines.
• Collaborate with industry and academic
partners to enhance the program's relevance and impact.
• Participate in service to the department,
university, and professional communities.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
• An earned doctorate from a regionally
accredited U.S. university or comparable non-U.S. university in an area related
to one or more of the following: 2D/3D Digital Media Arts, Film &
Interactive Media, Animation, Game Design or related field.
• College or university level teaching
experience.
• Experience with supporting diverse
populations.
• Ability to work in a distributed faculty
environment.
• Proficiency in industry-standard software
such as Autodesk Maya, Adobe Creative Suite, and Unity or Unreal Engine.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with teaching and mentoring in
online learning environments.
• Experience with academic program
development.
• Relevant industry and/or field experience.
• Professional experience in digital media
arts industries such as design, gaming, film, or interactive media.
• Fluency with artificial intelligence
applications in the digital media arts.
• Cross-disciplinary expertise in one or more
of the following areas: game art and design, digital communication
• Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and
English.
Special Information:
• Occasional travel will be required to
fulfill university-wide commitments.
• Office hours will vary to accommodate
student needs.
• Some evening and/or weekend engagement with
students is required.
• Applicants must be currently authorized to
work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is not available for
this position.

Rank/Salary: Tenure-track,
assistant/associate professor, appointment and salary to commensurate with
experience and qualifications.
