Job Summary:

The Head of Technology will be a visionary leader responsible for defining, architecting, and executing the technology strategy that drives the studio’s creative ambitions. As a key member of the leadership team, you will blend technical expertise with creative foresight to enable world-class animation production. You will manage a cross-functional team of internal and external technologists and collaborate with internal and external artists, directors, and executives to deliver technical solutions that elevate our and our outsource partner studios’ capabilities.

In this role, you will operate as the architect—leveraging your strategic thinking, ability to see the big picture, and passion for innovation to drive the studio’s technology initiatives. You will be a forward-thinker, always balancing technical excellence with creative flexibility, and a natural leader who can inspire and empower your team.


FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Technology Strategy & Vision:

  • Develop and execute a bold, future-focused technology roadmap that aligns with the studio’s creative goals and business objectives.

  • Drive innovation in animation tools, pipelines, and infrastructure to enable new forms of storytelling and games.

  • Lead the evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies, including AI, machine learning, cloud rendering, and other advances in animation and game production.



2. Leadership & Team Development:

  • Lead and mentor a high-performance technology team (both internally and externally), fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.

  • Build strong relationships with internal and outsource partner studio leadership, providing technical insights to inform key decision-making.

  • Foster an environment of continuous learning and development, ensuring your team (both internally and externally) is equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to excel.

3. Systems Architecture & Integration:

  • Lead and oversee the design of scalable, efficient, and secure technology infrastructure that aligns with the studio’s needs from development and pre-production through post-production and final delivery. This includes managing servers, networks, workstations, and software applications.

  • Oversee the integration of creative and technical workflows, ensuring seamless collaboration across departments.

  • Monitor and guide the optimization of the studio’s IT systems to ensure peak performance, flexibility, and readiness for future growth.

  • Evaluate and oversee the implementation and maintenance of industry IT cybersecurity standards and robust disaster recovery plans to safeguard studio operations.

  • Direct and manage the IT team to provide timely and efficient technical support to all studio team members, ensuring high satisfaction and minimal downtime.

  • Develop, implement, and enforce IT policies and procedures that ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices, while fostering a secure and efficient work environment.

4. Creative Collaboration:

  • Work closely with creative leaders, directors, developers, artists, producers, and outsource partner studios to ensure that technology solutions enable and enhance creative vision.

  • Serve as a bridge between technical and creative teams, translating technical jargon into clear and actionable insights that support artistic goals.

  • Promote a culture of creative experimentation, enabling teams to explore and push the boundaries of animation and game technology.

5. Budget & Resource Management:

  • Manage technology budgets and resources effectively, ensuring the timely delivery of projects within scope and financial constraints.

  • Prioritize technology investments to align with the studio’s most critical objectives and creative milestones.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. 

  • 8+ years of experience in technology leadership roles, with a focus on animation, gaming or creative industries.

  • Expertise in animation and gaming production pipelines, 3D rendering technologies,real time technologies, and related creative software (e.g., Maya, Houdini, Unreal Engine).

  • Strong understanding of software development, IT, cloud computing, distributed systems, and high-performance computing solutions.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Global production experience preferred
