Salary Range: Generally starting at $69,000-75,000 per academic year.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Summary

The Department of Computer Science (CS) in the College of Engineering & Applied Science (EAS) is seeking applications for an assistant teaching professor. This position will teach undergraduate courses including cross-listed courses in the Department of Computer Science as assigned by the department chair. The typical course load for an instructor is 24 credit hours (80% time) per academic year and service activity (20% time).

The Computer Science (CS) Department at UCCS has five Bachelors programs, BS-CS, BA-CS, BI (Bachelor of Innovation)-CS, BI-Game Design and Development, and BI-Cybersecurity. The department has several Masters programs and two PhD programs: CS and Cybersecurity. The BS-CS and BA-CS programs have specializations in AI/ML, Game Development, Software Engineering, Computer Systems and Networking, and Cybersecurity. Essential Functions

Assistant Teaching Professors will teach courses necessary for multiple Computer Science (CS) degrees and specialization, participate in service activities and other duties including but not limited to:

  • Curriculum development including the development of new courses
  • Advising undergraduate majors
  • Participating in College and Departmental committees and meetings
  • Guiding undergraduate students in independent studies
  • Developing and teaching online courses.
  • Other as assigned by the Chair of the Computer Science Department

Tentative Search Timeline

  • Priority will be given to applications submitted by October 20, 2024. However, this posting will remain open until filled.
  • The potential dates for interviews with the search committee will be the week of October 28, 2024.
  • The potential dates for interviews with the supervisor and appointing authority will be the weeks of November 4 and November 11, 2024
  • The potential employee start date is ideally Spring 2025. Fall 2025 will be considered.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A MS Computer Science OR Game Design and Development OR a related degree.
  • Experience teaching at least one course as a teaching assistant, instructor of record, or the equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching one or more relevant (CS or GDD) courses at the college level;
  • An earned Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field or relevant industry experience;
  • Development and deployment (selling or providing for free) of one or more video games for a GDD position

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move. The employee must occasionally stand for extended periods, moderate bending, and fine motor skills. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
