FULL-TIME FACULTY MEMBER - ANIMATION
ABOUT US: Villa Maria College is a private, Catholic
college providing students with the premier student-centered experience in
Western New York. Students learn and grow with a culturally diverse population
that lives its ideals of truth, charity, and unity. This position is located in Buffalo, New York.
OUR PROGRAM: The BFA in Animation Program at Villa Maria College began Fall 2008
and is a competitive, hands-on, and demanding program that recruits
highly-talented and committed students. At Villa, the 9:1 student to faculty
ratio enables instructors to have a meaningful impact on the artistic
development of each and every student. Villa Maria has three state-of-the-art
animation labs, each with 14 workstations and Cintiq tablets, including
software such as the Autodesk Entertainment Creation Suite, ZBrush, Substance
Painter, Adobe CC, and Toon Boom Harmony. There is also a stop-motion studio
that uses Dragonframe, as well as a separate puppet-building facility.
Cross-program collaboration is also strongly encouraged. Villa’s Animation
students have successfully collaborated with students form the Digital
Filmmaking and Music Industry BFA programs at Villa. Junior and Senior
animation films are screened at local movie theaters.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Animation Department at Villa Maria College
seeks applications who specialize in 2D Pre-Production techniques to teach
related foundations courses. This includes, but is not limited to,
Storyboarding, Character Design, Background Design, Pitch Bibles, and
Animatics. Applicants will handle all aspects of instructing undergraduate
courses in the BFA in Animation program, including organizing
lectures/demonstrations, generating and distributing assignments, assisting
students with technical and creative questions relate to assignments, and
grading.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

M.F.A in Animation is
highly preferred; however alternative degrees will be considered.
·
Preference given to
candidates with teaching experience.
·
Knowledge of 2D
Pre-Production and animation software required.
·
Knowledge of Motion
Design and/or Post-Production a plus.
·
Animation Industry
experience a plus.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
·
Teach a minimum of 24
credit hour equivalences per year.
·
Provide student-centered
instruction in all courses.
·
Provide direction and
climate for effective learning.
·
Design means of
evaluating and improving the teaching/learning process in the classroom
·
Pursue professional
development and growth.
·
Review and develop
curricula.
·
Serves as academic
advisor to students
·
Participate in program
assessment activities.
·
Participate in program
and College accreditation activities.
·
Submit required reports
to appropriate offices
·
Attend scheduled program
meetings and maintain regular office hours.
·
Develop plans for the
use of equipment, instructional aids, and supplies.
·
Assist in the
development of grant materials relevant to the faculty member’s role and duties
at the College.
·
Assist in the
preparation of program and recruitment materials and participate in recruitment
activities.
·
Participate in program
advisory council activities and meetings.
·
Assist the Department
Chairperson in carrying out program administrative duties, including program
course scheduling;
· Interviewing and hiring part-time faculty members; preparing
and monitoring program budgets, conducting program reviews, and other.
·
Serve on committees of
the College.
·
Assist and participate
in any other activities related to the respective program.
·
Assist the Department
Chairperson in assessing the effectiveness of the program.
·
Support the mission and objectives
of the College.
·
Participate in College
functions.
·
Assume other
work-related responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair, the Vice
President for Academic Affairs, or the President or his/her designee as needed
to meet the needs of the College mission.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
General work environment
requires employees to consistently use manual dexterity in reaching, writing,
navigating around the office/workspace. This position may include hours
standing and walking, including up and down stairs, moving items of up to
25-pounds. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be needed to perform work
associated with this position. If the position requires use of vehicle for
College purposes, a valid New York State driver’s license check may be required
for occasional off- campus assistance and support.
