CINEMATIC DIRECTOR
We are looking for a talented and experienced Cinematic Director to join an established team of developers working on an exciting, brand new AAA title in development at EA Vancouver. This is an opportunity to join a veteran team early in pre-production and help craft the vision and execution of a compelling and innovative action/adventure experience.
What the Cinematic Director Does at EA:
This role requires the candidate to have in depth knowledge and experience creating a more exaggerated and expressive character animation style within cinematics, film, or TV.
The Cinematic Director will partner with the Cinematics Producer to lead a cinematic team focused on achieving a high standard of narrative, voice performance, animation, cameras, and editing quality across all main story and gameplay focused cinematics.
You will collaborate with the writing team to create compelling narrative that can translate into an engaging cinematic experience. You will partner with external cinematic teams to ensure direction, tone, and style meet the qualitative and creative goals set by the internal team, and with the Narrative Producer to translate the creative vision into cinematic content that meets creative, qualitative and budgetary goals, and does so within fixed schedule.
Key responsibilities
• Develop, direct, and carry the cinematic creative vision, communicating that vision horizontally and vertically.
• Responsible for the generation of quality cinematic content across all disciplines including: narrative, storyboarding, animatic, previz, blocking, casting, voice direction, animation, editing, cinematography, lighting, VFX, audio.
• Ensure consistency of tone and style is depicted across the entire cinematic experience that matches the vision set by the Creative Director.
• Align and unify feedback from stakeholders and translate that into actionable plans by holding regular reviews and provide clear, meaningful feedback to members of the cinematic team
• Direct voice talent.
• Help establish and drive the pipelines, processes and methods necessary to take a cinematic from script through to final rendered in real-time.
Required Technical Skills and Experience
• 5+ years of credited CG directorial experience working in either videogame cinematics or TV/film – using key-framed animation
• 3+ years of experience managing and directing sizeable CG teams
• Demonstrable abilities within cinematography and editorial
• Proactive problem solving skills; the candidate must be able to identify creative issues and help to manage and resolve them efficiently
Beneficial Skills and Experience
• Experience directing external animation teams
• Proficiency working with Maya/Motion Builder, Final Draft/Movie Magic Pro
• Have experience preparing and co-directing mocap shoots
• Worked with game creation tools like Unreal and Unity
• A keen gamer, with experience playing many of the more recognized action adventure titles
