SAE Institute acquired Ex’pression College in July 2014
Co- Founder Gary Platt was the brain who came up with the basic concept for the college.
Co- Founder and investor Eckart Wintzen was the one with a lot of “out of the ordinary” business experience.
Gary and Eckart met in 1997.
Their vision for the college was to prepare passionate people for careers in the upcoming industries of sound and visual arts with a very hands on curriculum.
Ex’pression campuses are located in the San Francisco Bay Area as a lot of the industry is near – in Marin County, San Francisco and Silicon Valley – and because of the creative culture.
The very first student at the Emeryville campus was Marc Bode.
Our first hires Ty Carriere and John Scanlon still work here and are both Program Directors now!
The very first student at the San Jose campus was Matt Lindsay.
Ex’pression is spelled with Ex’ as Eckart owned several companies which names all started that way. Ex’ stands for Eck’s, short for Eckart’s.
