About Concordia University
Concordia University
Montreal’s Concordia University, established in 1974, is one of Canada’s most dynamic and forward-looking universities. Building on the strengths of its two founding institutions (Sir George Williams University and Loyola College), Concordia upholds strong traditions of diversity, accessibility, engagement, respect and academic excellence.
Concordia is emerging as a leader in Canadian higher education, with over 44,000 students including 4,400 international students from more than 175 countries, nearly 900 full-time professors, more than 1,000 part-time professors, dramatic increases in research funding, and five major construction projects on two distinct campuses in the heart of one of North America’s most vibrant cities.
Faculty of Fine Arts
Concordia’s Faculty of Fine Arts is unique in Canada. We offer, in a single faculty, an unparalleled range of visual and performing arts programs across nine departments (Art Education, Art History, Contemporary Dance, Creative Arts Therapies, Design and Computation Arts, Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema, Music, Studio Arts and Theatre) and three research institutes (Hexagram Institute for Research/Creation in Media Arts and Technologies, Centre for the Arts in Human Development and The Gail and Stephen A. Jarislowsky Institute for Studies in Canadian Art).
More than 3,400 students are enrolled in 53 undergraduate and graduate programs, benefiting from the Faculty’s cross-disciplinary environment and extensive partnerships in Montreal’s rich cultural community. We have experienced considerable growth since 1996, with a large increase in student enrolment, construction of state-of-the-art facilities, increased external research funding and the development of new graduate programs. We are undergoing an exciting period of faculty renewal, with a current complement of almost 115 full-time professors and a significant number of part-time professors.
