Senior Manager, Technical Artists

Summary of Position:

Provides management, leadership and support for the artists in the Layout, Character, Sets, Effects, Simulation, Lighting, Rendering and other technical departments.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

As one of three directors, you may do any or all of the follwing.

• Provide leadership and advocacy for the technical artists, including representing the group and individual needs to production & studio management, supporting career development, and ensuring resources are provided to the artists as appropriate.

• Participate as a member of studio management and communicate related plans and objectives back to the technical artists.

• Foster and support a positive, collaborative and productive culture within the technical departments; ensure relationships with production leadership and with other production departments are collaborative. Take steps to ensure that artists feel connected to the studio.

• In conjunction with productions, oversee year-end salary adjustments for the technical staff. Communicate the salary adjustments to the staff.

• Oversee the technical performance review process. Work with Department Leads to assess and manage performance, track and address low performance and evaluate progress and potential for TDs within each discipline.

• Lead ongoing staff transition processes, balancing the needs of production and the career desires of the technical staff.

• Maintain the right overall technical staffing. Manage the headcount in each employment classification by partnering with department leads and recruiting. Make final hiring decisions for all new technical staff.

• Work with department leads to structure mentoring program.

• Identify and plan training curriculum for the technical groups, utilizing the resources of Pixar University and other sources as appropriate.
