Rigging Supervisor
Description
To supervise the creation of expressive, flexible and efficient rigs that are compatible in the production pipeline and delivered in line with the production schedule. Meet technical and creative requirements set by Digital Supervisor (Performance) and Animation Director. Forecast, communicate and troubleshoot any arising issues pertaining to character and prop rigging performance and the Rigging and Animation pipelines.
• Supervise a team of Character TD’s to generate a variety of character and prop rigs including (but not limited to) mocap, animation and deformation rigs
• Develop and maintain all characters throughout production by keeping check with the Mocap/Previs/Animation/Finalling requirements that may arise through shot specific needs
• Maintain a convention of naming structures and animation control structures for all rigs
• Maintain functional parity between Mocap/Previs/ Animation/Deform rigs
• Participate in the development of a tool set for animating the character rigs
• Continue the design, maintenance and streamlining of the Character/Animation and Rigging Pipelines to reflect the needs of the production
• Utilize and extend existing Python and Mel based toolset for generating hero and background character rigs
• Develop and maintain portions of the character bibles relation to the performance requirements of the characters
• Work with the Animation Department to ensure the successful handoff and execution of character rigs for their use
• Bidding and casting of rigging tasks
• Give regular updates and reports to the Digital Supervisor (Performance) and the Animation Director
• Timely and clear communication of any problems to the Digital Supervisor (Performance) and relevant department HOD’s
