POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES:
The New York City College of Technology Department of Advertising Design & Graphic Arts invites applications for the full-time position of Assistant/Associate Professor in the Art & Advertising and Communication Design programs, which offer AAS and Bachelor of Technology degrees.
The Department of Advertising Design & Graphic Arts was founded in 1946 to serve the diverse needs of the New York City graphic communications industry. During 60+ years the department has continued to meet industry needs by expanding its programs and curricula to include a range of new digital communication technologies including video, web design, 3D animation, broadcast design, portable document formats, digital color presswork and digital asset management.
The communication design program currently offers four tracks: Advertising Design, Graphic Design, Web Design and Broadcast Design/Motion Graphics (Digital Video/Multimedia). Graduates may seek careers as art directors, creative directors, graphic designers, web designers, illustrators, animators, broadcast designers, or motion graphics designers.
The department’s curriculum is based on the integration of theory, technology, laboratory work and experimental learning. The curriculum is supported by ten computer graphics labs running the latest versions of over 15 software applications including Adobe CS3, Final Cut Pro, AfterEffects, Flash, Quark and Extensis Portfolio.
The department currently offers students internships that may be taken year-round at companies including The New York Times, Time, Inc., Avon, Colgate-Palmolive, Draft FCB, Conde-Nast, Hachette-Fillipacchi, Essence Magazine, McCann Erickson Advertising and MTV. Professional affiliations include AIGA, The One Club, The New York Art Directors Club and IDEAlliance.
Distinguished Alumni currently work as designers at ESPN; The American Museum of Natural History; Interior Design Magazine and Time-Warner, Inc. among many other firms and organizations.
The Assistant/Associate Professor will be responsible for teaching courses in several areas including but not limited to principles of animation, character development, storyboarding, and 2D/3D digital animation production and visualization.
Departmental duties include participation in department advisement, curriculum development, student activities and college-wide committees. The successful candidate is expected to pursue creative, scholarly and professional activities at a level appropriate to advertising design and graphic arts. Teaching assignments may include day, evening and Saturday courses.
