Audio Engineer/ Programmer
Description
Firaxis Games is seeking a talented software engineer to be responsible for the design and implementation of cutting-edge audio systems and tool chains for PC and console titles. This position requires a passion for creating outstanding in-game audio experiences. While sound and music creation experience is always a plus, this is a software engineering position.
Required Skills:

* Strong communication skills, written and verbal
* Strong object-oriented design skills and proficiency in C++ programming and debugging
* Knowledge of software engineering practices
The ideal candidate will have experience in most of the following areas:
* Working with 3rd party audio middleware API's (examples: Miles, FMOD, WWIse, XACT, OpenAL)
* Deep knowledge 5.1 / 7.1 surround sound, 3d sound positioning, rolloff, and custom listener positioning
* Creating and implementing plans for processing/cooking massive amounts of in-game assets
* In-depth knowledge of different audio formats such as WAV, MP3, OGG, XMA, ADPCM
* Working directly with sound designers, composers, game designers, and project leads to determine memory and CPU budgets
* Using DSP effects and fading sounds
* In-depth knowledge of platform constraints such as max number of channels, 2d vs 3d sounds, sound hardware
* Building systems to prioritize and make sense of large amounts of simultaneous sound effects requests
* Audio concepts such as reverb, wet vs. dry levels, pitch shifting, sample rates, bit rates, mixing, EQ
* Creating interactive music systems
Experience and Educational Requirements:
* 3-7 years experience in game industry in PC or console titles
* At least 1 shipped game title
* BS in CS, SE or equivalent
