Sony PlayStation: Staff Environment Artist
Bend, Oregon

We are looking for an experienced Environment Artist for our Bend, OR Studio. This is a well-rounded Artist who can texture, light, and model. They will be making objects, vehicles, rooms, buildings, and various other pieces of terrain. The applicant must have the ability to create high quality, photo real, efficient texture maps and models while adhering to the creative vision of the department directors. Developing, organizing, and maintaining unique as well as reusable level assets in a timely manor.

Responsibilities:
1. Create 2D art assets. Use Digital cameras, scanners, Photoshop, Painter, and other image manipulation tools to:
• Create original and aesthetically pleasing 2D textures.
• Create textures which tile seamlessly.
• Create textures from photo source that look realistic and not overworked or artificial.
• Create textures which follow established direction, engine guidelines, and parameters.
• Create quick and concise 2D breakdowns of photo source or concept art which show how an object might be built in 3D, how many poly’s it might take, how it might be textured and mapped, how many textures it might take, and how long it will take to create.
• Create concept art and style guides which help visualize tasks and assignments to other artists.

2. Create 3D art assets and World building. Create 3D art assets using 3ds Max and/or Maya:
• Model optimized geometry based on 2D concept art or photo source.
• Conceptualize and create a 3D layout for a game world based on written design descriptions.
• Be responsible for combining disparate parts and pieces into a visually unified world, including organic and inorganic terrain, objects, architectural elements, particles, sky and horizon elements, lighting, and gameplay elements.
• Combine and use the 3D work of other artists, providing feedback and training where necessary, for easier integration into final levels.
• Model 3d assets that work with gameplay mechanics and the in-game camera.

3. Create basic concept designs. Use Photoshop, Painter, 3ds Max/Maya, and traditional tools and techniques to:
• Create proof of concept artwork for proposed 3D assets.
• Create 2D level layouts and designs based on design documents and written descriptions.
• Create 3D mockups based on 2D designs or written descriptions which illustrate the scale and scope of the work to be done.

4. Supervision: The position requires supervising and/or generating feedback to more junior artists, giving daily written and verbal feedback, tracking progress, tutoring and training in tools and techniques where necessary.
