Summary:
As a strong, technically knowledgeable leader, this role oversees and is accountable for long-term facility planning and implementation of an efficient and effective pipeline that allows artists to focus on creating the highest quality images while working within an established production timeframe and budget. Oversees the configuration of any major restructuring and enhancement of the existing production pipeline; leads a working group including Software Engineers, show Supervisors, and key Digital Artist leaders to continually monitor, maintain, and enhance facility wide performance for Production.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
· Responsible for career development, performance evaluation, performance management, mentoring, and coaching for all direct reports and participates in mid-show, end of show, and annual review process; oversees all DFX , CG Supervisors, Comp Supervisors and Software Engineers responsible for pipeline, technique and workflow on each feature
· Manages department expense and capital labor budgets and oversees the creation of the annual plan for capital Software projects
· Oversees the Software department and the development of production tools and techniques designed to meet the goals of the studio for both current and future projects
· Manages Software operations and oversees the implementation of all software within the production pipeline with the support of the Software Development Manager, Senior Software Engineers, Technology Project Manager, and Show Supervisors
· Participates in the bidding process and strategizes on technical approach for all Features; ensures that the Supervisor teams work effectively with the VFX Supervisor and VFX Producer to accurately estimate work-load and resources in creating production budgets, scheduling, and assigning tasks
· Working with the DFX Supervisor on each project, responsible for ensuring the determination of an optimal course to achieve the Client and VFX Supervisor’s vision
· Partners with Technology Management and Supervisors to determine internal software development requirements and appropriate use of vendor applications
· Acts as an escalation point for Supervisors, Production Management, and Artist Management to resolve conflicts; ensures limited resources are effectively utilized and artists efficiently tasked by matching artist skill set to assignment identifying cross-utilization opportunities whenever possible
· Promotes a positive and productive work environment and leads collaborative efforts across the facility
· Anticipates facility challenges and identifies solutions with team of Supervisors and Software Engineers, maintaining an ongoing focus on optimization and efficiency
· Ensures effective communication between DFX Supervisors, CG Supervisors, and Area Leads to ensure critical information is shared across shows
· Oversees the completion of all end of show technical post-mortems and end of show reports, and ensures all appropriate documentation is made available to the facility
· Manages facility communication regarding facility pipeline, technique, and workflow; provides updates to Executive Staff
