Research Computer Specialist

The UM-3D Lab provides the UM community with access to high-end technologies revolving around computer modeling and visualization of multi-dimensional environments as they apply to nearly any discipline. The Lab's resources are available for students, faculty, and staff interested in the exploration of innovative ways for the communication of information, the visualization of complex data and processes, and the creative expression of ideas. Multiple hardware and software technologies are combined in the 3D Lab, including:

• 3D Modeling and Animation
• Computer Graphics
• Motion Capture
• Rapid Prototyping

This unique and rich combination of resources enables the exploration of new frontiers and realizes important aspects of the Duderstadt Center's mission as an Arts-Science-Technology Center.

DUTIES:
Provide technical advice and collaborate with faculty, staff, students and external clients to identify, develop and implement appropriate technology solutions for research, teaching and learning. Organize, prepare and conduct demonstrations, workshops, training sessions and outreach events.

Create or modify interactive 3D graphics applications, and further develop visualization systems in the 3D Lab, which currently include the immersive virtual reality CAVE, stereoscopic GeoWall, GeoWall2 for tiled display systems, AccessGrid for tiled wide-screen projection system. Prepare and develop content for these systems.

Maintain current hardware and test and develop new hardware solutions for all visualization systems. Investigate and analyze new hardware and software solutions for the Lab’s visualization systems.
