Nokia Research Center Hollywood (NRCH) seeks a research team leader to join their new research center based in West Los Angeles. This exciting new lab will carry out a range of research activities in the areas of mobile augmented reality experiences; innovative use of sensors; new forms of user interface and interaction; tools for content creation for mobile devices and large-scale mobile internet services, systems and solutions. This lab will serve as the innovation agent, leveraging the culture, talents and dynamic nature of Los Angeles academic institutions and media industries, to help transform Nokia into a leading company in not only mobile phone devices but also in mobile content, entertainment and internet services.

The person will be recognized as an expert in his/her research area and has excellent leadership, communication and collaboration skills. This person will have a passion for inventing disruptive technologies and a willingness to move forward in ambiguous circumstances. Demonstrated multi-disciplinary mindset with a deep and broad understanding at the software engineering level of one or more of the following levels: information technology, computer graphics and animation, motion capture, sensors for mobile environments and mobile content research and development. You will actively participate and lead a team that will deliver innovative concepts, demos and working prototypes. The research perspective includes both shorter and longer term aspirations.

The leader will establish and maintain contacts to relevant stakeholders in Nokia and local universities. As the research leader you are responsible for recruitment and management a team of approx. six researchers.
Your tasks include:
•Working with the lab director to set and steer the research direction, vision & strategy for the team.
•It is expected that the research leader actively participates in creating substance by contributing to the actual research efforts, for instance, UI development, academic publishing, or service design and implementation.
•Research leader is also responsible for managing the team budget.
