Animated Feature Art Director

Axis are currently expanding our Art Department and are seeking an experienced, talented Art Director to join them on-site in Glasgow to support with an upcoming Feature project.
Due to the current climate, this role will initially be remote however will be based in our flagship Glasgow studio.
This a great opportunity for an exceptional individual with an eye for amazing imagery to join a passionate team of artists in one of the UK’s leading Animation studios.
The Features Art Director role involves leading the project art department and applying creative ingenuity to a wide range of art and design challenges across the project. A high degree of talent and skill is required and prospective candidates will be expected to be able to conceptualize and interpret design briefs, and carry out the execution of various types of work to a very high standard throughout the production stages of the project.
The role requires a high degree of communication with the Director and the wider art team. The successful candidate must be a personable, pro-active individual with the ability to maintain a professional attitude and interact with a wide variety of personality types.
Responsibilities:
- Generate inspirational, innovative concepts, designs, renderings and creative ideas that help define and steer the vision of the Client, Director and Project.
- Interpreting Client Brief and requirements and ensuring the Art Team understands the creative and visual goals of the Project.
- Produce various types of artwork to support concepts, designs and ideas, to a high standard and within agreed timescales as required.
- Provide clear, concise and constructive feedback, art direction and supervision to other artists within the art team, some of whom may be external to the studio or off-site.
- Support with Project and Team organisational structure and estimating schedules for execution of work.
- Source and suggest artists who may be stylistically and creatively a good fit for Project requirements and the Studio.
- Create, design and innovate, in collaboration with others or individually, to suit the task at hand.
- Help to motivate, manage and produce effective results across the Art Team, providing senior support where necessary.
- Deliver results that meets and exceeds expectations, ensuring a reliable contact with the team and Client when required.
- Present concepts and design ideas, listen to feedback and make recommendations that are achievable within budget and schedule and implement or oversee implementation as required.
Requirements:
- Extensive Portfolio showing examples of the following types of work: Concept design, Production Design, Illustration, Storyboards, Colour scripts, Matte Painting to industry standard level.
- Strong leadership capabilities with the the ability to motivate, mentor and develop team members.
- A keen and critical eye for framing, composition, colour, lighting, design, style and impact, with excellent attention to detail.
- Minimum 5 years previous experience in Art Direction, Production Design, Illustration or Conceptual Artist roles preferably on a Features project.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills - clear and precise communication regarding art and design related matters within the team, Client and Management is a core responsibility.
- A strong sense of Initiative, and the ability to self manage, multi-task, prioritize and problem solve.
