Role:
MSG is looking for a Compositing
Technical Lead to join a groundbreaking post-production department based in Los
Angeles. As the content delivery team for the MSG Sphere projects, we strive to
deliver world-class content at an unprecedented scale on the largest LED
screens ever made.
The Compositing Technical Lead
directs a team to develop groundbreaking
techniques to stitch, clean up,
and integrate VFX into high frame rate content at extremely
large resolutions. This is a hands-on role requiring task delegation, direct
oversight of technical approach, detailed feedback, and assistance in order to
assure the highest quality work from every member of the compositing team.
In addition to supervising all
compositing-related activities in the creation of content for Sphere shows,
this role will require a leader who can assist in assembling a world-class team
via participation in recruitment activity and review of submitted artist reels.
The Compositing Technical Lead will also interface directly with
Pipeline and IT to define needs, recommend solutions, and provide timely
feedback to steer their efforts to support and optimize compositing
processes.
Specific Functions/Activities:
- Lead and mentor a team of
compositors, stitchers, and cleanup artists integrating a variety of
live action and CGI elements at very high resolution and quality.
- Establish technical approach, provide
compositing templates, and directly oversee all 2D work to assure that it
adheres to the established processes and meets required quality.
- Work closely with the Director of Artist
Pipeline Technology and VFX Technical Supervisor to bid and
schedule 2D work.
- Assist in the establishment and refinement
of pipeline and protocols for working, monitoring, reviewing, and
delivering content that meets Sphere’s color and resolution
requirements.
- Actively participate in recruiting
world-class freelance and staff compositors.
- Provide mentoring, individual training,
performance reviews, and professional guidance to all members of the
compositing team.
Qualifications:- Deep understanding of high end
VFX processes and pipeline.
- Minimum of eight years’
experience in compositing across a wide variety of content including film,
advertising, episodic and commercials.
- Expert user of Fusion or Nuke,
plus working knowledge of other compositing software and tools such
as Mistika, PTGUI, After Effects, and various 360º/180º plugins and
tools.
- Understanding of 3D processes,
and experience integrating 3D elements.
- Proven artist management and
leadership skills.
- Ability to multi-task,
prioritize, take criticism, and work under high pressure with tight deadlines
while maintaining team cohesion.
