Project & Programs Manager

Description

Join Shotgun and be a part of the film, tv and games industry’s widest adopted platform for project management and collaboration.  Thousands of artists and their teams rely on Shotgun every day to stay connected and work efficiently on the world’s most amazing entertainment.  [Check out some of their work in our latest customer reel.]  Help make a difference in their lives by taking the friction and busy work out of their day so they can focus all their energy and talent on getting their work “up on the screen” for the rest of us to enjoy.

We are looking for an experienced producer / project manager to join our senior team, driving a wide variety of cross team projects in an effort to help us function like a well-oiled, butt-kicking machine.  We’ve gotten pretty big and have a lot of firepower, which we are determined to use in the best possible way, but we need your help to keep things moving forward.

You’ll work directly with all the team leads on projects or issues that cut across departments.  Creating and managing schedules and budgets should be second nature to you, and you should be able to gently wrangle a (virtual) room full of smart and energetic people and help them clarify problems, solutions, or goals.  Then push forward to help get things done.

You’ll know when to be gentle, and when to be tough.  When to keep a meeting focused and when to let a team ramble a bit.  When everyone is clear and when you need to clarify.  You’ll be comfortable working with product managers, designers, engineers, marketing, support, etc., communicating at their level but without any issues asking a for clarification when you don’t understand something being discussed.  You’ll be focused on keeping a wide variety of plans on track but will understand when new information may very well warrant a course correction.  You’ll have super-power intuition (even with distributed teams) to spot and address problems, and an instinct towards peace making and finding win/win solutions.
Basically, you’re totally awesome.

So why would you want to work here if you’re this awesome?  Well, we’re awesome too!  We search the globe for the smartest and friendliest people we can find (we have a strict no-butthole policy!), so you’ll work with great people every day.  We work hard but believe in family and a great work/life balance.  And because our team is distributed all over the world, you’ll have the option to take advantage of working from home to make sure you never miss that soccer game.  We’re also building something important that is changing the lives of so many people, so you’ll feel good about what you’re spending your time building.

This position can be based in any of our locations (Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Boston or Montreal, Canada).

Responsibilities
• Drive projects from very early stages all the way through to completion.
• Interface with various functional groups, program/project teams and other stakeholders to effectively resolve issues and remove barriers to program success.
• Identify issues and proactively spearhead solutions.
• Track progress on a variety of team plans and aggregate into global views that can be reviewed and discussed at senior levels.
• Negotiate assignment of critical resources and assign responsibilities.
• Maintain open communication among program/project team members and lead program/project review meetings.
• Support team members and establish healthy, collaborative relationships.
• Maintain enthusiasm, energy and focus in a variety of circumstances.
• Ensure clear and consistent information is distributed to entire team.

Requirements
• 5+ years in a Project Management or similar role.
• Extreme comfort with tools of the trade, such as Excel, Google Docs, scheduling or task applications, etc.
• Well-developed instincts to balance the introduction of process with the retention of organizational flexibility.
• Polished, nuanced conflict management and negotiation skills.
• High energy, self-starter with a bias for action.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present clearly to people at any level in the company.

Bonus Points
• Experience on an agile software team as a scrum master or program manager
• Familiarity with the media and entertainment industry

If all this sounds like you, we’d love to meet you and discuss further.
