Production Buyer
Description
General Summary
The Buyer determines and is
responsible for securing the material resource needs of production through
daily inventory checks and communication with department members and vendors
relationships.
Essential Job Functions
- Responsible for
purchasing raw materials and goods for Fabrication, Set Construction, Model and
Prop, Production Management, and general Stage Department requests.

Works directly
with Management and Department Coordinators to analyze the production schedule
and plan for upcoming purchases to ensure goods and materials are available.

Practice
inventory controls, such as maintaining an organized inventory and a database
of on-hand inventory, to avoid any loss of goods or materials.

Responsible for
stocking and maintaining organization of inventory purchased
for production.
- Responsible for
inventory tracking for Departments supported; including communicating
with Heads of Departments regarding status updates for inventory
needs, overages, and excessive usage.

Secure proper
MSDS documentation for all new materials purchased and distribute
to appropriate Departments.

Create and
maintain purchasing relationships with all vendors including maintaining
up to date vendor supply list.
- Negotiate
pricing with vendors to ensure production stays on budget.
- Manage database
of vendor information and purchase history for pricing leverage
and ensuring the lowest cost of goods and materials.
- Coordinate with
Production Department to manage Runner’s schedules to ensure goods and
materials are picked up from vendors and delivered in a timely manner.
- Manage the
logistics of all goods and materials delivered to the building; including,
shipping and receiving, quotes requests, preparation of PO’s, invoices,
purchase card reconciliation, receipt documentation, and tracking.
- Work with the
Production Accountants to ensure budgetary goals are met.
- Handle
important emergency or rush purchases quickly to ensure production
remains on schedule.
Qualifications
- B.S./B.A. in
film, art or related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- 3+ years
experience in purchasing or in maintaining inventory.
- Excellent
analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work
with outside vendors.
- In depth
resourcefulness and adaptability with production.
- Ability to
troubleshoot and solve problems.
- Proven track
record of demonstrating initiative and work without supervision.
- Working
knowledge of MS Office programs.
