We’re seeking a full-time User Experience Developer at our world headquarters in Kansas City. UX developers will work with a team of skilled professionals that build enterprise solutions with an agile start-up approach using nimble, new technologies. UX developers collaborate with cross-functional teams of designers, copywriters, researchers and business stakeholders to define and implement superior online experiences and ultimately meet Garmin business objectives. This is accomplished through the development, testing and implementation of the code that ultimately brings the Garmin UX to life.
Essential Functions:
• Develops scalable, reusable and innovative solutions for Garmin’s suite of Internet applications
• Researches and implements new UX best practices, frameworks and technologies
• Leverages user feedback and data to inform UX solutions
• Contributes to the evolution of Garmin’s online standards
A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a relevant field or equivalent experience. A minimum of 2 years work experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description is required.
Qualified candidates for this role will also possess the following education, experience and skills:
• Outstanding academic qualifications
• Extremely proficient developing semantic markup and front-end code that is cross-browser compatible
• Demonstrated experience developing within the HTML5 and CSS3 specifications
• Must have solid experience developing JavaScript, both with and without frameworks
• Must possess knowledge of usability, accessibility, SEO and other standard best practices
• Demonstrates strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution experience
• Must demonstrate the ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively with minimal supervision
• Must be team oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
• Demonstrates effective time management, organizational and follow up skills with a keen attention to detail and quality
Candidates with the following qualifications are preferred:
• Diverse online portfolio demonstrating a superior understanding of current front-end coding practices
• Experience with dynamic, single page or MVC applications (PHP and/or JavaScript)
• Experience developing web services and manipulating data in both JSON and XML format
• Familiarity with content management systems
• Experience with modern development tools such as Git, preprocessors and continuous integration
• Experience with responsive and mobile-first coding practices
• Interest in continuous optimization of both code and resources
• Familiarity with performance considerations and utilization of content delivery networks (CDN)
