Director of Product Development, Electronic Toys

Description

We are seeking a Director of Product Development who specializes in Electronic and/or Robotic based products.  This role will both creatively and technically define overall product and execute on product development and manufacturing. 

The ideal candidate will be inspired by an insatiable desire to deliver high quality, unique and innovative technical toy designs that push the boundaries of what is achievable.  He/she will enjoy working in a fast paced environment, be able to determine product specifications, define project priorities, have a unique knack for creative problem solving and be highly self-motivated.  

Responsibilities:

• Assume creative accountability; own the product development and feature definition of all product specifications

• Deliver creative and innovative product plans; define and build product proof of concepts utilizing both external and internal resources

• Act as an innovative creative and technical problem solver who sees opportunities where others only see challenges

• Possess the creative vision to achieve product objectives; review and amend product designs to help achieve defined scope

• Lend expertise in how to design for manufacturability with our Asia team

• Evaluate parts/components to achieve a feature plan and budget in order to build high quality products in an efficient and cost effective manner

• Communicate on a daily basis with team in the US and Asia offices to track status and deliverables over Skype, by phone and within our internal project management tracking system

• Create and maintain project schedules and deliverables from project concept through manufacturing; ensure status of deliverables is clear and transparent

• Ensure all projects are delivered on-budget, on-spec and on-time

• Report project status on a weekly basis to executive management for feedback and approvals

Personal Attributes

• 7+ years Product Development experience; with a specialty in creating creative  electronic, robotic and/or mechanical toys or consumer products

• A creative visionary at the core who has a passion for building superior tech toys and holds the organizational maturity to create achievable product plans

• A strategic thinker who can distill complex technical ideas into a comprehensive high quality unique product

• Ability to effectively collaborate with people in multiple locations and time zones by email, phone and in person when necessary

• Deliver a hands on approach to solving problems

• Possess a positive attitude and desire to pitch in when and where needed

• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment; achieving results under tight timelines and turnaround windows

• Ability to balance cost and quality while delivering cost efficient, smart product designs

• Strong level of initiative and self-motivation

• CAD, Solidworks & Mechanism Development skills desired

• Technical & Electrical foundation is key

• Understanding of eboms and ability to review and critique schematics desired

• Flexibility to travel
