Product Designer - 3D UX Lead
Description
Join our team of
exceptional software engineers to design novel user experiences in 3D
editing and visualization. The Esri R&D Center–Zurich is seeking a
skilled lead designer for our Web 3D solution and Esri CityEngine
software, a groundbreaking 3D city modeling tool used in film
production, architecture, urban design, planning, and other 3D/GIS
industries.
Responsibilities:
- Design
interaction models, workflows, and user interface specifications to
bring beauty and ease-of-use to the CityEngine and ArcGIS user
experience
- Create
wireframes and visual designs, work closely with the engineers
implementing your designs, test designs to see what works well, and
refine the designs to sort out any problems and to polish the final
pixels
- Take high level concepts and synthesize them into clean, modern, and clever product specifications
- Interact
with users to identify and articulate their needs; research 3D UX
practices and push the state of the art; brainstorm with internal
stakeholders, set directions, and drive specification and development
initiatives
- Help define both long and short-term vision and roadmap for CityEngine and the ArcGIS 3D platform
- Give
high level presentations regarding CityEngine and 3D user experience on
behalf of Esri at external conferences and in other forums/venues;
evangelize the Esri 3D user experience practices externally and
internally
Requirements: - Solid intuition and strong passion for detailed, innovative, and empathic design; excellent spatial sense
- Well-rounded design skills (interaction, UI, visual, and motion design) for taking on multiple aspects of a project
- Strong
working knowledge of commercial 3D software tools such as AutoCAD,
Maya, SketchUp, or Rhino; proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, and
other design or mockup tools
- Minimum of two years of industry
experience in a software development company, including hands-on product
design leadership; experience with building and shipping software
products
- Excellent communication skills—you can clearly articulate the reasoning for deciding from among multiple explorations
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment that sparks ingenuity and encourages innovative ideas
- Understand
how to think about product strategy and vision alongside user needs to
define what we build before jumping to how we build it
- CV or portfolio featuring examples of your product design work
- Bachelor’s in computer science, computer engineering, cartography, architecture, or a related field
Recommended Qualifications:
- Experience with SCRUM and software development processes in general
- Experience with JIRA, GitHub, or similar issue tracking and project management software
- Familiarity with Esri CityEngine or ArcGIS
- HTML and CSS knowledge; current on latest responsive design techniques
