FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY),

a comprehensive college of 17,000 students in downtown Brooklyn, offering associate and baccalaureate degrees, invites applications for a tenure-track position teaching Illustration in the Advertising Design and Graphic Arts Department at the Assistant Professor level, to begin during the Spring or Fall 2015 academic semester. The communication design program currently offers five tracks:

- Advertising Design,

- Animation/Illustration/Game Art,

- Graphic Design,

- Web Design and

- Broadcast Design / Motion Graphics.

 

Graduates seek careers as art directors, graphic designers, TV art directors / producers, web designers, 3D animators, illustrators and motion graphics designers.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in several areas, including but not limited to Illustration, as well as Foundation/ Figure Drawing and Storyboarding.  Departmental duties include participation in department advisement, curriculum development, student activities and college-wide committees. The successful candidate is expected to pursue and achieve recognition for creative, scholarly and professional activities at a level appropriate to communication design and graphic arts. Teaching assignments may include day, evening and Saturday courses.

 

Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise.  Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

               

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications are a Master of Fine Arts degree or equivalent plus a sustained record of relevant professional experience. Applicants should have at least five years relevant experience as a professional illustrator in, for example, the areas of editorial, book publishing, games, or interactive commercial artwork creation, as well as expert knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite and other industry drawing applications and experience with drawing tablets. The preferred candidate will also have significant professional experience in computer graphics, commercial art, and/or interaction design. Candidates must be proficient on the Macintosh operating system and have excellent written, oral and communication skills. University level teaching experience is required for this position along with a demonstrated ability to communicate both technical and conceptual topics. A record of successful grant application or securing industry support for educational initiatives is desirable.

 

Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
