FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The New York City College of Technology's Department of
Advertising Design & Graphic Arts invites applications for a full-time
tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Art & Advertising Design
and Communication Design AAS and B.Tech degree programs. The communication
design program currently offers five tracks: Advertising Design,
Animation/Illustration/Game Art, Graphic Design, Web Design and Broadcast
Design / Motion Graphics. Graduates seek careers as art directors, graphic
designers, TV art directors / producers, web designers, 3D animators,
illustrators and motion graphics designers.
Responsible for teaching basic, intermediate and advanced
advertising design concept courses. Departmental duties include participation
in department advisement, curriculum development, student activities and
college-wide committees. The successful candidate is expected to pursue and
achieve recognition for creative, scholarly and professional activities at a
level appropriate to advertising design and graphic arts. Teaching assignments
may include day, evening and Saturday courses.
Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s)
of expertise. Shares responsibility for
committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and
other functions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master of Fine Arts/M.S. required plus a sustained record
of relevant professional experience for tenure. The preferred candidate will
have a professional advertising art direction and graphic design portfolio
demonstrating concept development expressed in multiple media channels
including web, mobile, direct marketing, email, outdoor, app design,
interactive interface design and social media. Additional copy writing
portfolio and TV Broadcast experience is a plus. Experience with copy writing
and an understanding of the collaborative team approach to advertising is
required. Candidates should have proficiency with software applications such as
Adobe Creative Suite, Premiere and After Effects. Grant application experience
and industry support for educational initiatives is desirable. Five years
professional experience (minimal), ten years preferred, as well as university
level teaching experience.
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach
successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate
with others for the good of the institution.
