Assistant Professor: Game Art & Design

Tenure-Track, Entry-Level Teaching Position

The School of Art
& Design at the University of Wisconsin-Stout is seeking a game artist
and/or designer to teach classes in the Game Design & Development-Art
BFA. The BFA is part of an award-winning
game development program comprised of more than two hundred students that was
listed as one of the Princeton Review’s Top 30 Game Design Programs in the country
and was the co-winner of the 2013 E3 College Game Competition.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
·
Masters
or M.F.A. in an area of expertise complimentary to Game Art and/or Design, or
equivalent advanced degree with an
emphasis in related field
·
Experience
using digital art and design tools and software
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
·
Focus
in 2D and/or 3D digital art
·
Knowledge
of the game design and development process
·
Evidence
of teaching potential
·
Proficiency
in industry standard game art and design software
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach three studio
courses each semester that may include beginning, intermediate and advanced
Game Art & Design classes, as well as other studio classes that support the
major. For this position, game art or
game design knowledge is necessary, and while the expertise of both game art and game design is welcomed, it
is not required.
Other
responsibilities include:

to a rigorous learning environment with willingness to use traditional,
alternative and digital delivery methods

Demonstration
of organizational skills, collegiality and the potential for future leadership in
the Game Art & Design program

Collaboration
with the Game Design & Development-Art BFA Program Director to develop new
curriculum

Commitment
to undergraduate teaching and interest in graduate level (MFA) teaching/support

Providing
academic advisement for students
·
Performing
service to the department, college and university
·
Engaging
in professional creative research
·
Pursuing
external funding
·
M.F.A.,
Ph.D., or other terminal degree required for tenure and promotion
·
Performing
other duties as designated by Chair
ABOUT THE GAME DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
The Game Design &
Development Program at UW-Stout competes on both a regional and national level,
attracting students from around the country and regularly participating in
professional organizations such as E3, GDC, IGDA, IDMAA and the Higher
Education Video Games Alliance. The
major has two new game development studios with industry standard 2D and 3D
hardware and software provided to both students and faculty. Select courses in
the major are co-taught by faculty from both the School of Art & Design and
the department of Mathematics, Statistics & Computer Science. When team
teaching, this position will focus on the art and design aspects of game
development, while a computer science faculty member will focus on the programming
aspect, thus demonstrating the collaborative and cross-disciplinary nature of professional

ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF ART & DESIGN
The School of Art &
Design has over 60 faculty/staff and over 1,000 students. There are five
distinct BFA programs (Entertainment Design, Studio Art, Graphic &
Interactive Design, Interior Design, and Industrial Design) and a MFA program
in Design. The BFA in Game Design & Development-Art is in the process of
