The Computer Animation Department is a nationally respected program, which houses two separate majors-the Computer Animation major, and the Game Art major. A highly collaborative teaching environment merges the aesthetic of feature film with today’s most current technology. Computer Animation majors focus on the feature film industry with linear narrative stories, while Game Art majors focus on the computer gaming industry by designing, creating, and analyzing the visual components of games.

The Position: The Computer Animation Department is seeking qualified candidates for faculty to teach character and environment design, digital painting techniques, and figure drawing to both the Computer Animation majors and Game Art majors. These positions require expertise in character design, digital painting, and figure drawing.

Included among the Duties and Responsibilities of this position are teaching students the necessary skills to create the preproduction artwork for the visual assets that will be used in their senior projects within a structure of three courses or nine credits per semester using high-end as well as traditional resources. Active participation in faculty, department, and committee duties is required.

(Minimum Qualifications)

·         Either a Master’s degree in Animation, Illustration, or a related field, OR a 4-year professional degree in art or design and equivalent experience, training and expertise with an appropriate record of professional achievement in the field

  • Ability to teach skills in digital painting, character design, environment design, figure drawing, storyboarding, concept development, and drawing for animators
  • Must be able to demonstrate a variety of stylistic approaches appropriate to both the Feature Film and Computer Game industries
  • Experience with current image and editing software applications
  • Experience with story and character development, storyboarding, expressive and descriptive drawing
  • A strong understanding of filmic language and composition for both large and small screen
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Dedication to providing quality instruction.
(Preferred Qualifications)

·         A MFA or other terminal degree in the field

·         Experience with Maya

·         Experience with Mudbox or Zbrush

·         Ability to create industrial design-style artwork

·         Experience with cinematics, story and character development, storyboarding, film theory.
