Position
Description:
While collaborating closely with the
Director and Producer and Lead Editor, the Editor helps to build the story reel
through assembling the story board panels and voice track. The Editor plays an integral role in helping
to shape the storytelling as it pertains to animation timing, pacing, staging
and continuity and as the project evolves from storyboard panels through final
picture. The Editor is also responsible
for setting up and managing the technical file structure and workflow within
editorial. This role also includes
managing and training more junior editors
Principal
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Story
telling skills and a deep understanding of the animation process in order to
best guide and support shot/sequence translation to creative and optimal
entertainment
· Extensive
understanding of the needs of the Story, Previsualization, Animation, FX, Lighting
and Compositing departments
· Following
the Director’s guidance, builds the temporary sound track by using stock sound
effects and adding in the music track
· Oversees
and/or implements in latest versions of shots and prepares for dailies sessions. Assembles the reel for screenings as
necessary
· Uploads
and maintains latest cut of sequences for reference and/or review by Artists,
Department Supervisors, Director and Producer
· Motivates
and mentors the editorial team to consistently strive towards excellence
· Collaborates
with the production management team to prioritize tasks pending production and post-production
schedule
· Responsible
for managing the workflow within the department and fulfilling all production
requirements
· Creatively
plus material in order to achieve optimal storytelling goals
· Oversees
all film editing and post production requirements for editorial per the
project’s schedule
· Sets
and adheres to digital file management protocols
· Supports
and integrates the values of ToonBox that being a commitment to innovation,
creativity, professionalism and inspiration
· Interacts
respectfully and professionally with colleagues, staff members and clients
· Additional
duties as requested
Required Skills and Experience:
Feature Film Production
·
Degree and/or diploma
in film school or equivalent experience preferred
· 5-7+ years of experience working in a professional environment within
their discipline
·
Worked on at least 1-2
high-end, feature quality productions.
Editor experience preferred
· Ability
to think like a film makers and supplement the creative vision for the project
through editing.
· Expert
knowledge in using AVID is required
· Prior
experience using Final Cut, After Effects, Photoshop, Assimilate Scratch and/or
AVID DS is an asset
· Must
be proficient with Windows 7 and Macintosh OSX
· Colour
knowledge and the ability to read a scope for colour is an asset
· In-depth
knowledge with production tracking system
· Vigilant
in ensuring all shot changes are efficiently communicated
· Experience
editing stereoscopic footage is preferred
· Ability
to liaise with production staff, artists, the editorial team and clearly
communicate production and post-production process, plans and set clear
expectations
· Practices
