Global Science
& Technology, Inc., a fast growing high technology firm, is seeking a Data Visualizer to support the NASA
Science Program Support Office.
Position is located in Greenbelt, MD.
Position Summary:
The Data Visualizer will create visualizations using
satellite data for scientific and popular audiences. Will also design, implement and optimize
algorithms for processing remote sensing data.
Primary Duties:
·Produce science data visualizations, both stills
and animations, based on satellite remote sensing data, data from NASA science
missions.
·Support production of visualizations by writing
software/scripts to pre-process raw data for import into COTS software,
Photoshop, Illustrator, Maya, After Effects, etc.
·Support traveling NASA Hyperwall exhibit, a high
resolution 4k display consisting of 9 screens arranged screen wall.
·Be responsible applying principles of visual
design to ensure that the visualizations are clear and understand by lay
audiences.
Secondary Duties:
·Operate and troubleshoot the NASA Hyperwall
Centos-based mini-cluster at events, including some amount of network debugging
·Facilitate transferring new visualizations to
the Hyperwall at exhibit events
·Be familiar the catalog of existing Hyperwall
visualizations and be able to recommend which
ones
to use to speaker designing Hyperwall presentation
·Act as docent for the NASA Hyperwall, explaining
the science behind the visualizations
Required Qualifications/Skills:
·Bachelor’s Degree in one of physical science,
visualization, design or related discipline
with
coursework and or work experience in all three fields (physical science,
visualization
or
design.) 3-5 years of experience is required or equivalent.
·Ability to interpret complex data sources and
synthesize information
·Fluency with Adobe Creative suite, or equivalent
open source software
·Understanding of map projections and the best
practices for their use
·Experience with programming and scripting tools
(e.g., D3, Python, Perl)
·Experience with geospatial data and tools (e.g.,
GDAL, GIS applications)
·Knowledge of effective visualization techniques
·Ability to work under tight deadlines
Desired Skills:
·Familiarity with NASA missions and data
capabilities would be a plus.
U.S. citizenship
or Permanent Residency is required.
Travel for this
position is required.
Selected
