Engineering Manager - World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft’s engineers are an incredibly talented group who are great at engineering, and we want to become great with managing engineers too. We would like help with tuning our team and growing our team culture so that we can focus on building epic experiences for World of Warcraft players. That’s where you come in.

The World of Warcraft engineering group is seeking a highly motivated, and experienced technical manager to support our engineers and engineering culture. The engineering manager is responsible for aiding career development, motivating and monitoring engineers, working with engineering leads to evaluate an engineer’s performance, providing coaching, and counseling as needed.

Responsibilities

• Develop relationships with all engineers, knowing their programming strengths and weaknesses.
• Support the professional goals and development opportunities for the entire engineering staff.
• Boost communications and facilitate feedback between engineers and the engineering leads.
• Provide coaching and counseling via mentoring, one-on-one meetings, etc.
• Monitor and review each engineer's progress.
• Organize regular performance appraisals.
• Assist production and engineering leads with work assignments.
• Plan and execute relevant training and conferences for engineering team.
• Assist the engineering leads with recruitment; review resumes, phone screening, and interviews.

Requirements

• Experience with managing, coaching, and mentoring software engineers
• Experience with programming game systems
• Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
• Exceptional attention to detail and follow-up
• Experience with staffing, interviewing and team building
• Good cross-disciplinary communications experience between engineering, production, design, and art
• Approachable, relaxed, and friendly demeanor
• A passion for video games
