Description
Matte Painters create
(but not limited to) the environment of a film based on the creative
direction from the Art and/or Production Design department. At times they are
involved in conceptualizing the look and feel of a scene/environment in the
film. As a
Matte Painter you are passionate about complementing the story of the film
and/or scene through your images utilizing visual cues such as composition,
color, and value while having a strong foundation in perspective. You
are continuously looking for ways to improve your creative and
technical prowess in a strong team environment and are willing
to utilize a variety of tools.
Duties
and Responsibilities:

Integrate matte paintings to match the
overall look and feel of the film.
·
Create
and develop 2D, 2 ½D & 3D assets, environments and elements.
·
Ensure matte painting consistency with
color and/or Lighting Keys.
·
Assist with the look development for a shot
or sequence with the supervising team.
·
Contribute to the visual and technical
attributes of the productions
·
Learn and adapt to new methods
and techniques.
·
Provide photographic reference
material by taking digital/film photographs.
Qualifications:
·
Strong Traditional Art background and/or
Architecture / Industrial Design (B.A. or equivalent degree
preferred).
·
3+ years of professional experience
in matte paintings for Films/TV or Games
·
Professional mastering of the latest
version of Adobe Photoshop, Maya, Vue and Nuke
·
Ability to interpret artistic direction and
adapt different painting styles.
·
Knowledge of Photography and/or
Cinematography.
·
Solid foundation in CG principles and
Production Pipelines.
·
Excellent communication skills and ability
to work in a team environment.
·
Additional experience in any parts of the
CG pipeline including: Modeling/sculpting
of assets and environments - Zbrush/Mudbox preferred. Texturing
in any package - Mari preferred. Lighting
and Rendering in - Arnold/PrMan/Vray or GPU based renderers and compositing in any package would be a plus.
