SENIOR RIGGER – Image Engine, Vancouver, BC
Contract: starting late July, 2014

supported pipeline, a friendly and collaborative environment, and with a
group of passionate artists all working towards realizing the
Director’s dream.
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:
The Senior Rigger must assume responsibility for delivering assigned Rigging work, and more specifically:
- Build and maintain character animation rigs of varying complexity
(Bipedal and quadrupedal rigs, hero characters, background characters,
motion capture rigs) with minimal supervision and within the studio
pipeline
- Build and/or integrate face shapes, muscle simulations, cloth simulations, dynamics and hair
- Responsible for skin weighting, corrective blend shape creation and mesh updates during the asset build phases
- Responsible for the integration of rigs into the show pipeline
- Address your Leads critiques and comments while providing solutions
to aesthetic issues to improve the assets; and maintaining a quality
level as described by your Supervisor/ Lead
- Provide dailied versions for assigned tasks in an agreed upon time by your Supervisor/ Lead
- Attend dailies, reviews, and team meetings as required
- Work with Rigging team, as required, to maintain continuity; as well
as, support other departments (Animation, Modeling etc) to ensure
information is communicated up and down the pipeline
- Provide input regarding existing tools and interfaces for Rigging
pipeline and provide solutions for technical problems that may arise in
an asset/ shot
- Write utility scripts to help other riggers, animators and pipeline developers
- Assist members of the Rigging team to learn and grow their skills to
meet their career aspirations by providing informal feedback, tips and
tricks, and encouragement
THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:
- Strong understanding of human anatomy
- Strong understanding of some animal anatomies (dogs, birds, etc) and
a desire to learn more depending on the requirements of the project
- Deep understanding of the Maya rigging tool sets. Experience with Houdini is also appreciated
- Working knowledge of at least one scripting language (python preferred)
- Strong communication skills and a clear understanding of animator
requirements. The applicant must be able to speak to an animator in
their language
The Senior Rigger should have 5+ years of progressive experience with creature rigging for high-end film/ commercials
