Research and Development Engineer
Description
This position develops software systems and techniques that advance
the state of the art in feature film visual effects. The duties are a
mix of building new systems, maintaining current systems, and supporting
artists in production.
- Primarily responsible for the research and development of innovative algorithms, software, systems, and techniques.
- Works directly with artists and production crews to identify technology solutions and define workflows and interfaces.
- Serves
as a knowledge resource for software and/or systems as they are used in
production at ILM. This includes end user support.
- Advises and assists junior engineers and occasionally leads projects and project teams.
- Contributes to discussions surrounding future applications and/or systems.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or scientific discipline; advanced degree preferred.
- 2+
years experience in field of computer graphics. In-depth knowledge and
demonstrated experience with computer graphics techniques, such as
animation, modeling, dynamic simulation, computer vision, compositing,
and rendering.
- Experience with commercial 2D and 3D software
packages preferred (Maya, Houdini, Nuke, Katana); development
experience with commercial SDK’s a plus.
- Experience with C++ development under Linux strongly preferred.
- Excellence in problem solving and balancing quick turnaround with long-term quality.
- Must be able to work well with a wide range of personality types.
- Must
be detail oriented and organized, possess strong communication skills,
and be able to prioritize a variety of tasks efficiently.
