Concept Artist (Environment) - World of Warcraft
Description
The concept artist has to have a playful imagination
coupled with a high degree of artistic skill.
They’ll be expected to take a seed of an idea and flush out all aspects
of the design. This may include a small prop, to a full culture kit all the way
to a mood painting that defines the emotional intent of an environment. The role requires a strong sense of
caricature, design, color theory, human anatomy, architecture and the ability
to push the WoW style.
This is a staff position at our Irvine, CA studio.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience creating concept artwork
for animation, film, or videogames
- Able to explore a wide variety of ideas that push the Wow
style
- Able to produce final illustration quality production
paintings
- Collaborate closely with the art director to keep a
consistent vision
- Work with a variety of people including those who are not
versed in art
- A thorough understanding of 2D paint packages
Pluses
- A degree or formal art education in illustration,
traditional painting or visual development
- Understanding of the visual style of World of Warcraft
- Extensively played World of Warcraft
Portfolio Requirements
- Environment designs that explore a wide range of styles
and explore specific moods
- Paintings that demonstrate a wide range of techniques
from classical to stylized that shows a deep understanding of composition,
color theory, and story telling
- Individual prop and building designs including
developmental sketches
- Life drawing and plainer paintings is a plus
- Only digital applications will be accepted such as a
website, blog or online album. Physical media will not be accepted
- An art test might be required if the work presented
doesn’t adequately demonstrate an ability to match the WoW art style
