eCenter Faculty - Software Development

Do you want to shape the future of the video game industry? For the past decade, faculty at The Guildhall at SMU have been influencing key developers and future leaders in the game industry. With over 500 alumni actively developing games for over 150 studios worldwide, the Guildhall has provided talent to almost every major title in recent history. As the premier education source in the video game industry, our faculty have the ability to teach and mentor tomorrow’s leaders, influencing how hundreds of games are built. Guildhall lecturer schedules follow the academic calendar including an average of 11 weeks of vacation (fall break, winter break, spring break, and summer break), as well as an optional 8-week summer break. Accordingly, faculty members are encouraged to use time to practice their craft and maintain credentials as digital game development professionals as well as educators.

eCenter Faculty: The Guildhall at SMU invites applicants for the position of eCenter faculty to teach in the graduate-level digital game development program in Software Development starting in Fall 2014. Teaching positions are non-tenure track with a one-year renewable term and a full-time teaching load. Benefits are accorded to full-time faculty

Position requirements include:
• A bachelor’s degree in a related field 
• A passion for developing and playing video games
• A minimum of five years of experience in the game development industry, with at least two shipped major games 
• Knowledge of current best practices in game development
• Fluency in the development tools and methods of the game industry
• Excellent C/C++ proficiency and design skills, solid math background, and solid engineering skills
• Strong technical writing and editing skills 
• Strong understanding of database structures
• Ability to work well in a team based environment
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred position qualifications include:
• Familiarity with one or more of the following engines/editors: CryEngine 3, Unreal 3.0; Half Life 2/Portal (Source), Unity
• Experience as a lead programmer or technical director
• Knowledge of game design principles
• Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop
• Familiarity with 3DS Max and/or Maya
• An advanced degree 
• Demonstrable teaching aptitude
