The Computer Animation Department is a nationally respected program, which houses two separate
majors - the Computer Animation major, and the Game Art and Design major. A
highly collaborative teaching environment merges the aesthetic of feature film
with today’s most current technology. Computer Animation majors focus on the
feature film industry with linear narrative stories, while Game Art and Design
majors focus on the computer gaming industry by designing, creating, and
analyzing the visual components of games.
Facilities: Ringling
College’s Computer Animation Department is located in a modern 20,000 square
foot facility. This facility is designed to replicate a professional studio
environment, and boasts the highest-end state-of-the-art computer laboratories
and a 5200-core render farm. A full-time Institutional Technology staff
supports the department. This is complimented with traditional studios for
Figure and Design.
The First Year hosts a unique and
highly collaborative curriculum that delivers traditional core competencies
through assignments tailored toward computer animation, game art and
illustration students.
The Position: The Computer Animation
Department is seeking qualified candidates for a faculty member to teach
primarily figure drawing to first year computer animation, game art and
illustration students. This position requires expertise in figure drawing,
anatomy, expressive gesture and sequential gesture as it relates to narrative.
The ideal candidate would also be able to teach one or more upper
division courses in the Computer Animation or Game Art and Design majors and/or
be able to teach figure modeling and maquettes. These courses might include,
but are not limited to, visual development, story and storyboarding,
traditional animation and/or 3D applications. Included among the Duties
and Responsibilities of this position are teaching students within a
structure of three courses or nine credits per semester. Active participation
in faculty, department, and committee duties is required.

(Minimum
Qualifications)

Either a Master’s degree
with specialization or expertise in Figure Drawing, Animation, Game Art, or a
Related field, OR a 4-year professional degree in art or
design and equivalent experience, training and expertise with an appropriate
record of professional achievement in the field

Demonstrated knowledge
of figure drawing, human and animal anatomy, form, value, gesture, sequential, expressive
and descriptive drawing.

Demonstrated knowledge
in Computer Animation and/or Game Art
·
Strong interpersonal and
collaborative skills
(Preferred
Qualifications)
·
A MFA or other terminal
degree in the field
·
Experience in figure
modeling, maquette building, character design, environment design,
storyboarding, concept development, drawing for animators, traditional
animation OR 3D applications.
