Assistant Professor, Digital Media

The University of Central Florida’s School of Visual Arts and Design seeks a dynamic assistant professor for teaching in the digital media area focusing on broad general knowledge of digital media. The successful applicant will teach in the area of digital media, delivering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels that inspire majors in the broad range of interactive digital media. UCF offers undergraduate B.F.A. and B.A. degrees as well as M.F.A and M.A. degrees. The School of Visual Arts & Design has approximately 2,700 majors across four areas that include architecture, digital media, film, and studio arts.

The position is for an assistant professor to teach a three-course load per semester. This is a nine-month, tenure-earning position. UCF supports and rewards teaching excellence. Faculty are expected to participate in school and university service including committee work, conduct scholarly research and service, participate in campus and community life and maintain regular office hours. The position anticipated start date is August 2014, pending the availability of funding.

Digital media faculty conduct creative research in areas related to interactive entertainment and learning (e.g., online; computer, mobile, and console-based computer games; virtual worlds; military simulation) and develop new techniques, content and applications in support of the arts and cultural heritage preservation.

Digital media faculty actively collaborate with UCF’s Institute for Simulation and Training. In addition, school faculty have an active role in UCF’s Center for Emerging Media located in downtown Orlando.

Minimum: Terminal degree in digital media or a related field from an accredited institution with emphasis in interactive digital media including modern practices or theory; evidence of competence with technology; effective communication skills; promising path toward quality research, creative projects and publication record required.

Preferred: Resourceful, collaborative, multitalented generalist with skills in web design, game design, interactive art and physical computing; current with new and emerging technologies; passionate about acquiring new skills as interactive media advances. Ability to teach both foundation and advanced digital media courses. Full-time teaching experience in a diverse digital media program at an accredited institution of higher education. Successful candidates will be proficient with technology, demonstrate excellent organizational and communication skills, significant scholarly accomplishments; design and deliver large face-to-face lectures, mixed-mode and online courses. Candidates will demonstrate interest in strategic program assessment, grant writing, and student recruitment.
