Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is a next-generation, third-person action game set in Middle-earth that explores an original story of vengeance and redemption. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is in development for PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment systems, Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, the Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC.
Monolith Productions, a division of WB Games Inc., seeks a project term Lighting Artist to be responsible for creating exceptional lighting in game levels and cinematic sequences. This person will work closely with the Art Director to ensure aesthetics quality and continuity is kept at the highest-bar throughout the product. The Lighting Artist is individual contributor position, and requires a full understanding of lighting principles, effective use and creation of shadows, as well as, aesthetic sensibilities that enhances action or mood of the scene. A portfolio demonstrating multiple lighting samples is required.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- A Lighting Artist is responsible for implementing production tasks that establish and define the core lighting for our cinematics in accordance to the style guide, and under the direct guidance and direction of the Art Director.
- Is capable of addressing assigned bugs, as well as submitting relevant bugs as they pertain to lighting.
- To mentor and train more junior lighting artists and assist/develop documentation of best practices.
- Works in a supportive manner to help other members of the lighting team where applicable.
- Effectively communicates with all members of the art team both orally, and written.
- Participate in a weekly cinematic meetings, to communicate the weekly planning and review of current work in progress.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- AA/BFA preferred, and demonstrates a strong portfolio that supports lighting work.
- At least 5+ years experience in the industry.
- At least 1 published game preferably 360 or PS3.
- Proven excellence in artistic judgment and skill.
- A core understanding of basic lighting principals, and the fundamentals of digital application.
- Experience with materials/shaders and their relationship to light.
- Excellent color sense.
- Wide understanding of lighting/rendering technologies (pre-render and real-time rendering, Global Illumination, Ray-Tracing, HDR, Photon Mapping, etc).
- Familiar with 3DSMax (or a leading 3D modeling packages ) , Photoshop and has the capacity to learn new tools, and artistic method.
- Shows an able understanding of fundamental technical topics, and is capable of implementing them into their workflow to execute assignments.
- Strong background in traditional art skills.
