Responsibilities

The Lead Matte Painter, working closely with the production team and supervisors, is responsible for the matte painting team’s management and training. He or she shares techniques and references with the team, as well as ensuring their work adheres to the style and vision requested by the client. The lead delegates matte painting tasks with the coordinator, as well as personally creates photorealistic or figurative paintings and elements that match concept using 3D and 2D tool and techniques.

Skills and requirements

• Experience working as a lead Matte Painter or equivalent
• Thorough knowledge of matte-painting techniques including colour space, digital-paint techniques, photography with an emphasis on composition, depth, lighting and colour
• Knowledge of the structure of 3D production pipelines
• Mastery of XSI and Maya, Adobe Photoshop as well as readiness to learn new software as necessary
• Knowledge of Shotgun a plus
• Good understanding of color, lighting, perpective
• Excellent team management skills; able to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
• Task driven, self-motivated and proactive
• Skilled in problem solving and technical troubleshooting
• Curiosity and desire to improve matte painting skills
