Scientific Data Visualization Specialist
Description
The Living Environments Laboratory at
the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery is a space and a place where scholars
explore the connection between environment, technology, human action,
experience and visualization. Our primary instrument for research is a C6 fully
immersive virtual reality CAVE. This position will support the research of the
LEL by leading initiatives to visualize scientific data sets in a 2D or 3D
environment. This position is also expected to initiate data visualization
projects with labs across campus.
DATA VISUALIZATION
*Develop scientific data
visualizations and tools for exploratory and expository data analysis
*Create interactive visualizations for
mass public consumption that inform, engage, and entertain
*Research new ways of displaying
scientific data in 3D, both independently and in collaboration with other
researchers
*Participate in on-going exchange
regarding data visualization, verification and validation of representation,
and interpretability of the representation
*Explore data structures and features
to discern representation challenges
COLLABORATION AND SUBJECT MATTER
EXPERTISE
*Communicate directly with other WID
and Campus based researchers to initiate new explorations
*Provide advice and assistance on
other laboratory projects as appropriate
*Devise visualization strategies to
meet investigator needs and answer questions
DOCUMENTATION
*Create, curate, maintain and display
a wide variety of research data
*Lead development of a library of
information display and document library
*Responsible for development of
documentation strategies for interim products and final versions
