Qualifications: MFA in a related discipline is preferred, though a BA, BFA in a related discipline with demonstrated significant and exemplary professional experience may be considered. Candidates must have a minimum of two years professional full-time experience working as a visual development artist in the Animation, Game Design, and/or Visual Effects industries, or a minimum of two years teaching or training experience in academia or in the animation industry. Application materials should demonstrate a wide range of technical capabilities, strong drawing skills and mastery of one or more areas of Visual Development, Concept Art, and/or Storyboarding. Candidates should have the ability to self-train on new software and teach a range of animation courses. Working knowledge of 2D animation software such as Adobe Flash and ToonBoom is desired. Additionally, the candidate must be able to contribute to a positive working environment with a wide and culturally diverse range of colleagues, students, faculty and staff.

At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.

Responsibilities: Teach introductory through advanced animation courses focusing on Visual Development, Concept Art, Storyboarding, and 2D based animation software including Flash and ToonBoom. Collaborate with Art Department faculty and faculty from other departments on curriculum and program development in Animation and Game Design. Supervise student internships, lab techs and the Art Department student animation club. Actively participate in student recruitment, advisement, program promotion and exhibition of student work. Build professional partnerships for department funding and student internships and job placement. Serve on committees in the Department, College and University. Continue creative/professional work and exhibitions.
The Department: The CSUN Art Department has over 900 students majoring in Art, 24 full time faculty, 60 part-time faculty. Offers BA and MA degrees in visual arts, art education and art history, as well as, the MFA degree. The Art Department participates in the University’s commitment to teacher preparation and K-12 partnerships.
