Description
The University of Central Florida seeks an
innovative, visionary leader to direct the School of Visual Arts and Design, a unique and exciting structure that combines traditional studio arts with digital
and emerging media. Academic programs
and areas of faculty research and creative activity include the visual arts, film,
architecture, animation, game and web design, and interactive media. The School
is dynamic and growing with approximately 65 full time faculty and 2,900
majors/minors. The School bridges
creative and technical disciplines and figures prominently in the strategic city/state
mission of the university through significant contributions to emerging
technologies and the arts. Located in
beautiful east Orlando, UCF is home to more than 60,000 students and offers
unique opportunities for collaborative research within and across disciplines.
The director’s duties include program administration,
personnel, teaching, research, and student recruitment, as well as developing
relationships with community partners including those in arts organizations and
industry. The director is also responsible for developing an academic vision
and facilitating program development, interdepartmental collaboration, and productive
relationships within the university structure. The directorship is a 12-month,
full-time position, which will begin in August 2013.
The academic home for the School of Visual Arts and
Design is in the College of Arts and Humanities. The School Director will report to the Dean
of the College of Arts & Humanities.
