Assistant/Associate Professor – Visual Communication (Animation/Digital Media) The American University in Dubai and the Department of Visual Communication invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Digital Media (Animation/Digital Media) for a start date beginning with the Fall 2012 Semester. The successful candidate will teach beginning and advanced courses in traditional and contemporary 2D and 3D digital animation in the Department’s Digital Media Major, and is expected to demonstrate a capacity to teach additional courses in the Department’s Digital Media curriculum. A secondary qualification to teach courses in the department’s Foundation is desirable. Candidates must be able to demonstrate significant potential and promise of teaching effectiveness. Duties: This faculty position typically teaches four courses in animation, other digital media or foundation course assignments each semester, and participates in the oversight of the digital media facilities. Additionally, this faculty position will actively participate in ongoing development of the digital media curriculum, course development and facility enhancement. Excellence in teaching, research and/or creative activity, and university or community service is expected of all AUD faculty. AUD seeks candidates committed to using integrative technologies in teaching. IDEALLY, THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a studio-based two year MFA from a Western accredited university with at least 18 graduate credit hours in digital animation or equivalent foreign institution qualifications. Teaching experience beyond graduate school is desired. Strong skills in both traditional and contemporary 2D and 3D digital animation techniques are required. Preference will be given to candidates who are well versed in Maya, as well as story development, storyboarding and animatic skills. The ability to integrate other media techniques with standard animation is desired. Ability to teach Performance or Installation Art is a plus. A secondary qualification to teach one or more Foundation courses is desired. The compensation package for this position is competitive and is based on the expatriate model. The package includes tax-exempt base salary, housing, annual two-way airfare, contributory health/life insurance, professional memberships, contributions to professional development and scholarly/creative presentations, assistance with children's tuition, and other components. The successful candidate will be awarded an academic rank commiserate with their qualifications and experience.
