VANCOUVER Assistant Technical Director
Description
The Assistant Technical Director role is to facilitate a smooth running show and to provide hardware, network and support service under the guidance and direction of the Digital Production Supervisor.
Responsible for setting up the resources and standards for the production. Coordinates with the DPS, CG supervisors, CGRA, CG Producer, Production, and other Leads (roto, animation, layout, TD, comp, etc.) to determine the needs and appropriate paradigm to use in setting up the show. Once the show is up and running they are responsible for monitoring the production to ensure compatibility with established department setup and operating standards. Duties involved in the initial show setup include but are not limited to the following:
* Shot Directory Arrangement.
* Create and maintain the web pages for the show.
* Monitor disk space and report status to all who need to know.
* Proactively manage processor load/requirements, reporting problems to show management.
* Troubleshoot and track down problems related to fileserver load.
* Knowledge of show specific scripts.
* Set up the dot files and make corrections.
* Modify scripts where needed to make sure everything is working and appropriate improvements are developed.
* Coordinate with Resources to ensure a smooth setup and production.
* Completion of all assigned tasks as directed by the CG, FX, Sequence Supervisor or Producer.
* Politely remind the artists to clean up their files.
* Provide input and aid to the production staff regarding show resource management needs/expectations, CG department procedures and hardware/network availability.
* Serve as a liaison between CG staff and all other disciplines.
* Efficiently solve and work with other departments to solve production problems that arise during the show.
* Check in with Render Support in the morning to insure investigation of any ongoing problems or issues.
* Quickly and efficiently perform all tasks as directed by the Supervisor, assisting the production with scripts/software, resource updates, departmental procedures, and so on, to ensure a smoothly running show.
* Responsible for post-show cataloging, show clean-up and the final show report.
* Facilitate integration of new software, hardware and procedures into ILM & show specific pipelines as needed or as requested by show management.
* Work under the direction of a CG supervisor to develop skills in all aspects of technical direction, including lighting and compositing.
