Part-time Instructor in Animation, Games, and VFX
Description
We are a new and growing campus hiring artist/instructor for a part-time position in Animation and Game Department.
Individuals with animation, film, tv, or game experience in one area such as: Char Animation, 3D Game Content Creation, Graphics/Pipeline Scripting, Layout, and VFX are preferred.
We are looking for multiple people with various skill-sets to join our team.
This work is part-time and can be done in addition to a current job. Work can be scheduled after hours for people with full-time jobs looking for supplemental income.
Classes are taught in our Sunnyvale, CA campus which is centrally located in the South Bay. The campus is 1 block from a CalTrain station. We do not offer or cover relocation expenses.
For people with experience making 3D or 2D content for games:
• Experience creating creating 3D environment for games.
• Experience with Unreal Development Kit, Unity, or proprietary tools for building levels.
• Experience with Maya building textures, geometry, and 3D game content.
• Experience building and designing a real game.
• Fundamental understanding of game design principles.
• Experience creating or working with game design documents and processes.
For individuals with a 2D or 3D Animation skillset we are looking for:
• Ability to draw thumbnail sketches or story boards for staging exterior and interior shots.
• Drawing skills with pencil or graphite.
• Ability to apply principles of character and object design to animation
• Strong experience animating in Maya on professional quality work.
• 2D animation skills in Flash or ToonBoom.
• Strong demonstrated experience in the principals of animation.
• Understanding of storytelling and character development.
• Ability and skill and imagination designing 2D shapes and 3D forms.
• A solid understanding of perspective, anatomy, and character construction.
• Ability to compose and understanding of composition. Drawing skills to create rough boards
showing and demonstrating good composition.
• Understanding of POV, perspective, and different types of shots/camera moves.
• Ability to conceptually design shots or levels in games including prop placement, vehicle
placement, and environment design.
For people with a Programming/Scripting 3D skill-set we are looking for:
• Understand the use of the scripting languages like python, MEL, Unreal Script embedded within a 3D software package like Maya and Unreal Development Kit.
• Experience as a Technical Artist or Technical Assistant in a 3D game,film, or TV studio is preferred.
• Create procedures, function statements, arrays, and variables by using programming language concept
• Use properties, text, graphics and scriptable controls
• Create customized tools within a 3D package.
• Good fundamental scripting/programming skills (documentation, understanding of data structures, revision control, etc)
• Make evident debugging and troubleshooting skills as related to web scripting
• Ability to implement UI menus and dialog boxes. Adding custom properties to a form.
• Explain how industry-standard scripting techniques are incorporated in the major 3D graphics software applications.
• Articulate the role of scripting in automating labor-intensive tasks.
