JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE) is a recognized worldwide leader in massively multiplayer online games, with millions of gamers around the globe having enjoyed the company's products over the years.
SOE creates, develops and provides compelling entertainment for the personal computer, online, game console and wireless markets.
SOE has developed and/or published a number of ground-breaking and genre-defining games, including EverQuest , EverQuest II, Star Wars Galaxies , PlanetSide , The Matrix Online , EverQuest Online Adventures (for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system), Champions of Norrath (for the PlayStation 2), Untold Legends and Field Commander (both for the PSP handheld entertainment system).
Based in San Diego, California, with development studios in Los Angeles, Austin, Seattle, Denver, and Taiwan, SOE strives to push the envelope of online entertainment quality, innovation and delivery, thus maintaining a leading position on the cutting-edge of technology.
SOE is looking for an experienced Visual Director to work on a next generation MMO. Join the team behind the successful Untold Legends Action RPG franchise and Field Commander that has a depth of MMO experience from such games as EverQuest 1 & 2 and EverQuest: Online Adventures.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who wants to be part of a dynamic team creating new intellectual property from the ground up for the PS3 and PC.
Responsibilities:
- Explores and creates artwork that informs the early production process; Establishes an appropriate and consistent visual and conceptual style, thus defining the creative vision of the game while making sure the game design needs are being met.
- Generates and maintains a cohesive style for character, environment, background color and texture, lighting and/or prop design. Mentors art team and conducts regular critiques with clear and consistent direction. Maintains the look and feel of all the art within the game.
REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications:
- Experience and proficiency in creating new intellectual property at every level, such as from concept visual exploration to setting a finished art direction for all content of the property.
- Overall ability to design a broad range of original concepts, from characters, interiors and exterior environments, to objects and vehicles.
- Demonstrated ability to direct a team of artists in the completion of a long-term, original product with a compelling visual style that fits the genre and setting of the product.
- Portfolio demonstrating mastery of color, composition, form and design within 2D/3D digital and traditional media with a solid eye for detail and consistency. Candidates should also expect to show extensive examples of concept design and art direction methodology.
- Candidate must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and visual. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively is important, as is the ability to professionally present concepts and ideas to marketing and studio management.
- Overall, the candidate must be able to provide artistic vision and work effectively with a team of artists to see it through.
DESIRED SKILLS AND PLUSES:
We'd Love you to to have:
- Strong experience and understanding of 2D and 3D art as it applies to next-generation game platforms
- Solid proficiency in Photoshop.
- Solid experience with a 3D package (preferably Maya)
